Hola from Hagerstown! Our ward is called Falling WAters 2nd ward. We found this great sign and had to take pics.
How perfect!!
Monday:
Not the best start to the week. First off, I was just super moody. Second, J. dropped us. His sister-in-law died and he says that he is too sad to take the discussions. J. has apparently dropped the missionaries before. As hard as it had been, I know that it is not over with him! I am so grateful that he lives with members, that they can teach him about the amazing plan of salvation or plan of HAPPINESS!
Tuesday:
We got a new investigator named JC! On monday we pulled out our GPS and randomly thought, lets visit this former investigator. He was leaving on a bike ride with his kids, but told us to stop by on Tuesday. Well, we did and the lesson went GREAT! He had recently gone through some very rough times, so we talked to him about the Atonement. The more I think about the Atonement, the more baffling it it. When you think that Christ took upon him all the sins of the world, it is impossible to imagine. It is mind blowing. It is the greatest act of love that could ever be preformed! Now here is the part that has really been on my mind. The Atonement is not only for sins. Christ suffered for and knows all of our pains, sicknesses and sorrows. How!? Could there be anything more amazing and beautiful than the Atonement?
Tuesday night was fútbol night! I have been holding back trying to get a handle on the rules, but, our branch doesn’t have any! So, I am gonna start giving it my all! All the hermanos in nuestra rama were making fun of me and teasing me the whole night because of my VERY poor skills. Oh ya! The ENTIRE branch calls me Hermana Mango because they cant pronounce Mangum! IT IS SO CUTE! I also love it because of my new found love for the heavenly fruit!
Wednesday:
Had the BEST visit con la familia B! We got to know them more and they are the cutest! Both work at Walmart. Hermano B. unloads the pallets and he is in his late 50s! I don’t know how they do it! Actually, I think they are able to keep going because of their love for their work! They have worked together at Walmart for 13 years! They brought out every single employee of the months certificate, pin, plague, picture off shelves they had and showed us! It was so sweet and cute! I am pretty sure I said this before, but they are very private people. Well, they wouldn’t let us leave! haha! We are going back today @4 to help Hermana B. organize her sewing room- she makes wedding dresses!
Thursday:
We got a call from one of the Sister missionaries living above us. The other was sick and they were not going to be able to pick up their mini missionary. They have this program here where the youth go on mini missions for 3 days with us. So cool! We said we could get their mini missionary and keep her for the day. #christlike We went to the church and were VERY shocked when 3 girls were there waiting for us! Apparently we had already been assigned 2 mini missionaries but our branch president forgot to tell us. We were in a 5ionship! We took Hagerstown by storm! I know it sounds crazy, but it was a miracle that the Sister living above us got sick or we would have never known or gotten our hermanitas! The Martin sisters and Hermana Wade were so fun to have! It did make me realize how much a mission matures you though! I am only 1 or 2 years older than them, but it felt like a HUGE difference! I felt like a 45 year old around them!
Friday:
Our lesson with C. was ok. He is really hung up about la apostacia. We spent all of last time explaining it and all of this time. His son-in-law gave him some amazing analogies but it just isn’t clicking. He is very old! And the reason he is confused is because he cant tell the difference between the word apostacia y apostle. We asked him to be baptized and he said yes, but he wont choose a date. He has been coming to church EVERY sunday for a LONG time. He just keeps saying he is learning bit by bit. It was a hard day for me. I didn’t feel like I had taught or listened to the Spirit at all. I was pretty down but HErmana Zindel really helped me out and helped me recognize the promptings of the Spirit. Sometimes it is just a thought that is put in our heads. Anything that is good comes from the spirit!
Saturday:
BEST DAY EVER!!!!! WE had a lesson with JC and he is getting baptized on September 10th! The spirit was so strong! I had to ask him to be baptized and it was nerve racking- but he said yes! SUch an amazing experience! To think that we only dropped by his house because of a small little prompting of the spirit and now he has a baptismal date! GAH! #cloudnine Please pray that he continues to progress! He didn’t come to church yesterday but we had a great lesson with him later in the day about el Libro de Mormon. We also know he has some word or wisdom issues.
F. is another former investigator that we decided to stop by and visit last week. our 1st lesson, not great. This lesson,... FANTASTIC! WE taught about the Restoration and her husband was there (he is very strong in the catholic faith). The spirit was so strong I felt like I was swimming in it! I could literally have done the breaststroke around the room!!!! At first her husband was very closed off to us but @ the end of the lesson both F. and husband said they felt happy and peaceful! F. said she would be baptized but we don’t have a date yet. This lesson was by far my favorite experience of the mission thus far!
When we were walking in the city today we heard a gunshot- it was probably about a block away from us and it was loud! Will you google if there was a shooting in downtown Hagerstown and let me know? THanks!
Sunday:
Had to give the closing prayer in sacrament meeting and sing Yo Se Que Vive Mi Senor con Hermana Zindel in sunday school! Saw a Latino family across the street and made a run for them! We get crazy when we see latinos because there aren’t too many! So when we do, we pounce! We got their number :)
There was a lot of drama about our apartment building last night! LOOOOONG story short, there is a crazy lady in our building and the other Sisters think she broke into their apartment. They drove by and the light was on but when they were walking to the house the light was off. They called President and were VERY dramatic! There is definetely something up, but they are freaking out WAY too much! I grabbed a pot and Hermana Zindel grabbed a knife... then we did a sweep through their apartment. haha! We are going to be getting new apartments soon so I will keep ya updated!
I was reading in Moroni 9 and the phrase "doubting nothing" was repeated over and over. I love this! God can do anything, all we have to do it not doubt that he can! I was also reading in Ether 12 verses 24-26. I am not going to type it out but go and read it! It describes exactly how I feel! My spanish is "awkward" and I fear that I am going to be "mocked". Again, I just need to "doubt nothing", open my mouth and if I am doing everything I can, it will be filled!
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope all is well at home and in Colorado!
Love
Lennon :)
