Hola familia :)
Monday:
Had the best time with la familia B! I know I shouldn't have favorites- but I love them so darn much!
MILAGRO ALERT! We had dinner at Presidente Quintenilla's house and decided to stop by some potential investigators houses that were in our area book. We stopped by to see if a guy named M. was home. We knocked on the door and A. answered :) She is an ANGEL!!! We starting talking and when Hermana Zindel went to ask when would be a good time for us to stop by again and get to know her and her family more, Hermana Zindel couldn’t! She told me that she physically could not find the words and what a miracle/blessing/ prompting of the Holy Ghost it ended up to be because she invited us right on in and we had a lesson right then and there!! It was FANTASTIC!!!!!
Tuesday:
We had Zone Conference. It was a ton of fun meeting all of the other Spanish speaking missionaries! P.s. Mom, I got it wrong! There are only 5 Spanish speaking areas that are open for sisters. Lo siento!
Futbol! I was determined to get in the game! I actually went after the ball and contributed to my team... or at least I thought I was! haha! Presidente kept yelling at me "kick the ball Hermana!!!" over and over and over! I am sorry... yelling at me to kick the call won’t make my feet magically gain the ability to do so! haha! I am kicking, I just completely miss the ball! Then, Paco kicked the ball with all of his might and NAILED me in the face! It hit me so hard it spun me in a circle and gave me a bloody nose! I feel like a professional fútbol player now! :)
Wednesday:
We were street contacting in the hub of town and saw some Latinos across the way! Whoo hoo!! Hermana Zindel started talking to the 2 guys in the car and I talked with Pablo. Oh Pablo! He was W A S T E D ! ! ! ! He was hiccuping every other second, repeating himself, couldn’t stand up straight. He kept trying to hug me! I would have been scared, but he was a REALLY short, wasted guy and I know I could have taken him :) Other than Pablo, it really was amazing and a miracle! They have seen the missionaries before and we got their number!
Thursday:
Hermana Zindel and I have started taking walks in the morning. THe houses here are awesome- each one is so unique! It reminds me of our walks at home mom!!!! We had an appointment with C. and she brought her amiga F! She always wants to feed us... so we had lunch even though it was 10 in the morning. I have never eaten so much food in my life- missions are hard that way! Huge meal after huge meal! Well... F. wants to go to hair school and work at a salon so she asked if she could practice on me. I cant describe the horror that was laid upon my head (I will be sending a pic) We booked it out and as soon as we got home I jumped in the shower. As I was trying to erase all traces of the horrific hairstyle, Hermana Zindel sat in the bathroon and we did language study! haha!
Here is the most AMAZING MILAGRO! We were walking in the city and all of the sudden I heard the word "missionary" so I turned around. N. was getting out of his car. We just started to chit chat and he told us that when he use to work @ Good Will some Sister missionares would come in every week to talk with him. He was going through a VERY hard time and told us how it completely flipped his life around. He started to see the light and have hope, he got a new job, saw all the blessings of God and now he cant go to bed without praying. We talked to him for about 20 minutes- about the gospel, about basketball!! haha! AT one point in the conversation I said "ya ya" and he started laughing so hard and bumped my fist! N. then proceeded to give us his #, address and set us an app[ointment with us, all on his own! Could he be more prepared? Here is the craziest part! The other day a car pulled up to us and said... "You ladies need to get off your feet! I saw you walking on the other side of town just a few hours ago" We figured out that THAT GUY WAS N!!! I remember feeling like we should have given him a card and that we missed a great opportunity! But of course, HEavenly Father gave us another chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday:
Hermana Zindel made eggs and sausage for breakfast and then made my bed! She is the BOMB!
We found a family in our GPS that we didn’t know so we decided to stop on by. We were very shocked when a white man answered the door! haha! He served his mission in Argentina and is the only member and person who speaks Spanish in their home- but he hasn’t been to church in years, Anyways, we had a great conversation and at the end, they told us where 2 hispanic families living in their neighborhood! #referrals So... then we decided to stop by and visit the other families, I... being as directionally challenged as I am, went to the wrong house. It ended us being a blessing. Who could have thunk my poor sense of direction could eventually lead to a miracle! This cute old man named Elmer opened the door. He showed us his workshop and we talked for a little while. Then Elmer told us that he was a retired preacher and he wanted to give us something... a book!!! Oh my, I was on cloud nine and quickly said "Can we give you a book too!?" He said yes and I ran to the car and grabbed the only English Book of Mormon that we have (which I decided to grab on the way out of our house that day). I gave it to him and he made us a deal. He said that he would read our book if we would read his and when he finishes, he will call us up and we can talk about it. Elmer... you have NO idea what you just got yourself into! Nobody can read the Book of Mormon and not know that is it true!!! I finished reading the Book of Mormon this week, every time I read it I am in complete awe! I really can’t put my testimony of it into words! But, I know with every fiber of my being that El Libro de Mormon es la palabra de Dios. Yo se! Yo se! Yo se!!! And I know that since the Book of Mormon is true... so is EVERYTHING else in our church! Jose Smith fue un profeta, and we have a living prophet today- all of their teachings and revelations come from God!
Saturday:
We met a ton of people and had some amazing conversations -but- I don’t have time to write them all out, so we will just read my journals juntos when I get home ! But, lets just say that all of the hispanics in Hagerstown decided to come out of hibernation! They were everywhere! We got quite a few #s and we continue to march forward with our ears set to the tune of the Spansih music! It hasn’t failed yet!!!
WE are teaching free English classes and put signs up all over town, Only 1 guy, JL, showed up, but he is amazing and so sweet! Last night we got a text from him asking us how to write "estoy muy triste" in English. We asked him if he was ok and he replied by asking us if we knew of a program for alcoholics. So... we are gonna help him out with that.
Sunday:
JC and his kids came to church!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was amazing! The boys were scared @ first but were lovin it at the end! Even though they tried to convince us otherwise- haha! JC was raising his hand and answering questions in class! The branch was spectacular! Every person introduced themself! It was perfecto :) We also visited with a ton of less active people in our branch and they all have different reasons for not coming. But, every reason comes back to something social. People... be nice! Social conversion is the most important part. But also... people, stop being so easily offended! Your beef with someone else in the ward shouldn’t keep you from showing your love to God and living his teachings!
Sorry for the rant!
I hope that all is well! I am having the time of my life! :)
Cant wait to read your emails!
Love,
Hermana Mangum!
